Bbm For Android, Ios Garners 2.5 Million Pre-registrationstechie News

blackberry bbm ios android BlackBerry was planning the launch of a cross-platform BBM for quite a while now and this is the first time that the company will be offering them publicly. Samsung teased BBM for Galaxy smartphones back in August, just after it confirmed existence of BBM for Android earlier the same month. Andrew Bocking, who oversees BBM for BlackBerry, has revealed in an interview with CNET that the messenger has already managed 2.5 million pre-registrations. BlackBerry claims that there are already 60 million active users of BBM and it is only available on BlackBerry smartphones for now. The messaging app is probably one of the strongest offering from BlackBerry and the company indicated previously that it may spin-off BBM as a separate company. At launch, BBM for Android and iOS will not have an elaborated set of features, but will consist of core features including instant messaging and group chats. BlackBerry has revealed that it will be adding more and more new features over time as time passes by including voice and video chat, and BBM Channels among others.

BBM Protected keeps BlackBerry in the game – The REM

BlackBerry brought its iconic Messenger service to iOS and Android late last year with great success , and in an earnings call Thursday morning, CEO John Chen provided a more concrete timeline for the instant messaging service’s Windows Phone blackberry messenger para pc debut. Nokia and BlackBerry haven’t hidden their plans to bring BBM to Windows Phone, but the previously targeted release date was a somewhat nebulous “sometime this summer.” Today, Chen narrowed the launch window to the month of July, CrackBerry reports . BlackBerry Messenger will be available for Windows Phones this summer. The addition is a boon to Windows Phone, which is reshaping itself into a capable business-focused mobile option while BlackBerry itself tumbles from grace. During this morning’s earning call, Chen revealed that phone sales dropped from to 2.6 million devices, down from 3.4 million last quarter and 6.8 million a year ago. The company’s still doing all it can to make BlackBerry itself an appealing platform for enterprises , however.

BlackBerry Launches BBM Protected for Enterprise Customers

The product is aimed at its base of government, insurance and banking customers and is the first piece of its eBBM suite (where e stands for Enterprise). Designed to provide full end-to-end message encryption from the time a BBM Protected user sends a message to when the recipient receives the message, the BBM Protected incorporates three layers of security by making use of the PGP like model for encrypting messages between BBM Protected users. The sender and recipient have unique encryption and signing keys which are generated on the device by the FIPS 140-2 certified cryptographic library, and are controlled by the enterprise. A Triple DES 168-bit BBM scrambling key encrypts messages on the senders smartphone, and is used to authenticate and decrypt messages on the recipients phone. This kind of protection is pretty hi-tech, making it very difficult for anyone to decode an entire conversation. Further to this, the service ensures user privacy as at no time, the keys are stored within the BlackBerry infrastructure as BBM and BlackBerry are not involved in brokering the key exchanges.
